About Mary Rowen

My three published novels, LEAVING THE BEACH (a 2016 IPPY Award winner), LIVING BY EAR, and IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY focus on women figuring out who they are and what they want from life. Music and musicians have a way of finding their way into the stories. I live in the Boston area with my family and pets.

Therefore, when I went out this past Friday night to see the Boston band The Vivs, I was almost overcome with emotion, partially because I realized how much my character, Chris Daley, (in the novel Living by Ear) could learn from them. The Vivs, you see, have a few things in common with Chris. But while Chris struggles and flounders, The Vivs don’t seem to be doing very much of that at all.
